BSC Call for Experts: Zebrafish and C. elegans Behavioral Assays
The Botanical Safety Consortium is seeking experts in
- Zebrafish embryo and larval behavioral assays
- C. elegans behavioral assays
These experts will support the Neurotoxicity Working Group in reviewing a dataset to evaluate whether these existing tools are suitable for assessing botanicals as complex mixtures.
We are asking experts to attend 1-2 virtual meetings (each model will meet separately) this fall to
- Qualitatively evaluate developmental and behavioral assay data for 16 botanicals to assess suitability of these models for complex mixtures.
- Identify any assay-specific considerations when testing botanicals, such as solubility, matrix effects, or interference from certain constituents.
- Suggest further quantitative analyses or incorporation with other existing assay data (e.g., transcriptomics in zebrafish embryos at 48 hpf)
Note, experts do not need to be a part of the Botanical Safety Consortium and are only asked to participate in 1-2 meetings and potential follow-up. Follow-up can include co-author in a peer-review manuscript and acknowledgement in presentations and publications.
Please write to Connie Mitchell (cmitchell@hesiglobal.org) by September 12 if you’d like to be involved or have questions.
